  3. Richmond

Part of southwest London, Richmond was originally named after the Tudor period building 'Richmond House' which was situated in the area after being built in the early 16th century. Despite this, the area only really started to become the popular London suburb it remains today after the railway station was built in 1846. The borough has been part of Greater London since 1965.

Richmond is a popular place to live for a range of people, the majority of which are London commuters. As a result house prices in the area are above average, and demand for a place to live here remains high. In addition to this, an article in the Guardian newspaper in 2009 named it one of the happiest places to live.
