The District of Epping Forest lies to the North of Greater London. While it is completely outside Greater London, a large part of the south of the district is included in the Greater London Urban Area. Stretching over 2,476 hectares, Epping Forest is very popular with mountain bikers and horse riders. Much of the forest has been designated a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ as it boasts a diversity of flora and fauna. The biggest town in the district is Loughton, which hosts an annual festival each year to celebrate the town's literary and artistic heritage.
